What they do

Lyons fit fire doors and do carpentry across Essex, London and Kent. They work on new builds, on lived-in blocks of flats, and on private houses. Their customers are main contractors, housing associations, councils and homeowners.

Half of that job is the work itself. The other half is proving it was done properly, because a fire door that nobody signed off is a fire door that gets pulled out again.

What they needed

Two trades under one name is a hard thing to explain. Lead with carpentry and the fire work looks like a sideline. Lead with fire and people forget they build staircases and fit kitchens. They were losing that explanation in the first ten seconds, and the wrong half of the business was getting the enquiry.

They also had to convince people who do not hire on a nice photograph. A main contractor or a council officer wants to see the certificates before they will talk about the job. Lyons held all of them and had nowhere to put them.

And their enquiries come by phone. Someone standing on a site with five minutes to spare wants a number, not a contact form that might get answered tomorrow.

What the site does

It gives both trades equal billing. The front page splits straight down the middle, fire protection on one side and carpentry on the other, each with its own page behind it. Nobody has to guess which one is the real business.

The phone number and a WhatsApp button sit at the top of every page. On a phone the number dials when you tap it, so the shortest route from finding the site to speaking to someone is one thumb.

The certificates are up near the top, not buried on an about page. Anyone checking whether Lyons are worth a call can see the answer without scrolling.

Below that there is a wall of photographs from real jobs, each labelled with the trade it came from. Floor joists, trussed roofing, fire doors, staircases, cladding. It is the same thing a customer would ask to see before hiring anyone.

The site also tells search engines where Lyons are based and which areas they cover, so somebody looking for a fire door fitter near them has a chance of finding the business rather than a directory.

I work solo, so you deal with the person writing the code. Nothing gets lost through an account manager, and you are never explaining your problem twice.
